Universal Controls Solution outfitted this new school building with VAV air handlers, exhaust fans, and water systems, using ABB BACnet controllers for system communication and KodeLabs for analytics. We also integrated the existing Trane controls into a Niagara framework. CCIC received our custom graphics package, tying every system together in a clean, user-friendly interface.

UCS was selected by ABB to deliver this project as an ABB Cylon System Integrator. The expansion was completed with a fully integrated smart building platform built for long-term performance and operational excellence. The system gives ABB intelligent control of the new space while prioritizing comfort, energy efficiency, cybersecurity, and scalability.

A multi-phase controls refresh of Advanced Energy’s Building 2 — RTUs, VAVs, and heating-water systems brought under JACE supervisory control across three phases (2021–2024), sequenced around a fully operational facility.
Controls work is straightforward when the building can be shut down. The hard version is converting a system that has to keep running. These are the jobs behind the zero-downtime number above.
A central chiller plant on Siemens controls, with a state controls standard that called for a different platform.
The plant could not go down. An operating building, mid-season, with loads that had to be served throughout the conversion.
Stage the cutover with a written sequence and a defined fallback at every step: inventory first, verify the new path point-to-point, then transfer. Convert to Distech because the owner’s standard required it — not a line we lead with.
The plant never dropped. The building met its state controls standard, and the owner got a documented system their next contractor can work on.
Two wings needing to share controls data across a run of more than 2,000 feet — roughly twenty times what standard Ethernet will carry.
Trenching fiber or building a chain of intermediate closets was disproportionate to the need, and the equipment on both ends was not T1L-native.
Use T1L purely as the long-run transport: media adapters at each end, single-pair Ethernet across the span, standard equipment on both sides.
Full data sharing between wings over one pair, without fiber trenching or added closets — a fraction of the conventional cost.
Existing communication trunks that other bidders scoped for a complete re-pull, priced into their proposals.
Occupied buildings where opening ceilings and conduit is the most disruptive and expensive part of the job.
Test the existing pair first. Where it is sound, run T1L over the copper already in the wall instead of pulling new cable.
The re-pull line item comes off the estimate entirely. Same scope, same outcome, materially lower number — and we have won work on exactly this difference.
We build detailed 3D models and custom operator graphics of the facilities we control — so operators navigate their building, not a list of cryptic point names. It's a capability most controls shops don't offer in-house.







We build custom Reflow front-ends on top of Niagara — branded dashboards, navigable 3D floor plans, and intuitive equipment graphics that turn raw points into something operators can read at a glance.
